For IT Staff

Shibboleth

Shibboleth, as a single sign-on technology, offers access to services facilitating inter-institutional access to resources. This, in most cases, means the user simply using his or her institutional username and password once. This effectively means that in any institution operating individual user accounts it is feasible to implement a Shibboleth IdP box.

By using a single account to access subscribed and shared e-resources rather than multiple logins the user experience is less time consuming and the process saves on unnecessary duplication of data.

VLE Middleware can install, explain, document and support all components of a Shibboleth based Single Sign On system. Shibboleth itself is open-source software.

Moodle

Moodle is also open-source. It's a Virtual Learning Environment which is widely used across the world to support and enhance learning, although it is also used for many other purposes - including for easily maintained websites.

The installation of Moodle is not complex, but our experience does allow us to install and support Moodle at low cost to relieve pressure on IT staff in educational institutions.

Documentation and support

All our work is fully documented so that you can maintain a full continuous service. We also offer (and most clients accept) an option support package which includes all upgrades when stable releases of software are made available and an "every working day" telephone support line.
