For librarians and learning resources staff
Online resources
It's not easy to find elearning resources for every subject area and every level. Staff may ask you for guidance on discovering online content for their courses (there are some ideas of where you may look on the left of this page), or they may want their Students to access resources for which you have an agreement (InfoTrac, for example).
But how do Teachers add web-based content to their online courses? How can their Students log on to outside websites without your needing to reveal a plethora of usernames and passwords (which they'll probably forget). How can you store, index and later retrieve interactive training materials.
Single Sign On
Shibboleth can provide the answer to the problem of access to multiple websites and materials by simply removing the need for the Students to know anything but (1) a single username and password and (2) the name of their institution.
Delivering resources to Students
Moodle provides an excellent delivery platform for online learning materials (and can even store grades and other results where the materials are in the standard "IMS" format). It's easy to use and we'll provide you with a series of step-by-step guides which you can use with your staff.
Storing resources
Repositories of learning materials were invented for just this purpose. Moodle contains it's own Repository system which makes it very easy to add specific content to online courses from a central store, or we can include the well-known CCC Repository system which includes intuitive facilities for converting, uploading, tagging (keywording/indexing), finding, retrieving and using materials.
