For managers - how can we help?
VLE
Middleware services were developed to meet specific
needs, mainly within Further and Higher Education. Our parent
organisation, Kidderminster
College, made the decision both to invest in the technologies required
to support open-source software and to recruit and fully train the
necessary support staff. This decision was followed by our bidding for JISC (Joint Information Systems Committee) funding to develop projects which we knew were important to the future of the organisation, and to education generally in the UK.
Amongst these was the KC-Rolo project whose primary aim was to setup Shibboleth architecture between Kidderminster College, RSC West Midlands and University College Worcester to provide a long term method of sharing of institutional learning resource objects. The experience gained during this project has enabled us to offer a customised service to many other institutions at reasonable cost.
By combining our experience of Shibboleth (an open-source methodology for simplifying access to web resources without the need for multiple logons) with our long term knowledge of the Moodle Virtual Learning Environment, we can now offer a number of fast, cost-effective solutions to learning access, training and support.
Some institutions simply need us to install solutions and provide detail;sed documentation. More commonly, they choose to take up our offer of training and support as well.
If you already have Moodle in place, we can offer both administrator and teacher training to get the best from it. See the IT staff and Teachers pages for more information. Your learning resources staff may also be excited by the ease with which Teachers and Students can access web-based materials.
Finally, don't forget the learners - the reason we all do our job. Active, differentiated, personalised learning is enhanced by pedagogically-sound online support for learning. Our experienced qualified trainers can make sure Teachers, and therefore Students, benefit from exciting, interactive learning.
